Sad To Go!

We just left the house today and boy were we sad to go! The house was very clean with everything you would need for a beach stay (cooler, chairs, abundance of towels, beach toys) and we donated three new boogie boards for the next family. Kitchen was well stocked for those that cook...we didn’t. Pool and lanai are the best part of the home and where we spent the majority of our time. The sunsets are jaw-dropping and we made sure to never miss one! Had a small glitch with the air conditioning but Ute, Steve and the owner, Jim, were all over it. They had it back up and running the next day. We loved the kitties who came to visit (always outdoors and they never attempted to go inside the house). Bonus was the super comfortable master bed and soft bedding. Towels were new, white and very fluffy. The reviews don’t lie on this one folks, don’t hesitate to book it! Thank you to Ute, Steve, Jim and Sallie for keeping the home impeccable and for sharing it with us!

Fishing Kona

As we stayed active most of the time it was nice to such a nice place to come back to. This house has everything you need. The reachable person check to make sure we had everything we needed. You can look forever and not find a better home in my opinion to rent.

This home met all of our wants while in Kona. We came to the island so I could compete in the Ironman World Championships, so the location of this house was absolutely ideal....close enough to Kona to be easy but far enough away to be quiet and private. The view though. That's the best part. We spent every available moment on that lanai! The home was very comfortable and spacious enough to accommodate 3 couples, each with their own large bedroom and bathroom. Also had plenty of room for all my triathlon stuff! Loved the little geckos everywhere that would come out to say hi.

We can't say enough good things about this property and I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to the area....especially for you triathletes that come to this spectacular island in October to race! Thanks again for sharing your home with us.

Outstanding Vacation Home

It's hard to know where to start our glowing review! Wow. We were a family of 6 adults, with a 4 month old baby. The home exceeded all expectations! The outdoor pool lanai was our home away from home, from coffee lounging in the morning to spectacular sunsets in the evening. Swimming in the pool after touring around the island was so perfect. We wish we would have had another week (or a month ;-)! The home is beautiful, had everything we needed and was clean and well kept. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything one would need! We will all be back and HIGHLY recommend Hale Hina for a vacation on the Kona Coast. Mahalo Sallie and Ute for a fabulous stay in your beautiful home! It was picture perfect.

Beautiful home, even better experience

While the pictures can’t do this home justice — it is a remarkably beautiful home and setting — I want to emphasize the professionalism and pride that goes into the home and rental process. One of the best parts of our stay was how helpful the property manager and instructions in the home were, as well as pre-rental communication. Top notch. Ultimately, the home lets the beautiful view steal the show — those sunsets over the pacific from the lanai will always be with us. But the total package is astounding, and the location for us couldn’t be better — quiet, but convenient to a nice grocery store (so we could cook each night) and to the Kona-Kailua activities. We loved the surf shop at nearby Kahalu’u Beach and spent a lot of time in the water there.

Blissful Family Vacation

Hale Hina is an absolute gem. Our family of six adults enjoyed a five-night stay at this blissful retreat. The home is fabulously well-appointed with everything we needed and more. We are a family of foodies and cooks and we found all the kitchen goodies needed to create (and clean up!) delicious meals. The open floor plan and BBQ/outdoor meal-prep area really allow everyone to feel a part of the fun and action. The home has enough space for moments of togetherness (cooking, playing games, enjoying the view and pool/spa), however it is also spacious enough for six adults to spread out and enjoy relaxing with a book, taking naps, or just staring dreamily out at the epic ocean-meets-sky 180 degree view from the patio. The home is a perfect location for day trips to South Kona and the Kohala coast, but we never wanted stay away too long from this thoughtfully designed and meticulously maintained retreat. Our stay at Hale Hina left our family feeling inspired, refreshed and relaxed. Thank you for our stay in this artful home!

A+ rental. Our favorite.

This is the house, folks. We've rented quite a few, and this one is #1. The location in Keauhou, a couple miles south of Kailua-Kona, is perfect. The view from the back porch/pool is absolutely incredible. We spent many hours in the pool and on the outdoor couch and chairs, relaxing. Every evening we got a different sunset vista. We were pleasantly surprised that there were many pool toys for the kids. The house is located in a guarded, gated community. You can get a good morning's walk in (do it early or you're gonna sweat a lot!) by walking around the community, and a couple of times we cut through an empty lot onto the (now unused and overgrown) Kona County Club mountain course to walk.

The home is just as pictured (beautiful), with many art pieces to ponder and enjoy. Importantly, the sectional couch in the main living area is very comfortable and clean. We bring a Roku stick when we travel, so we spent a few evenings watching movies (let's just say thanks for our kids we are now "Ice Age" completists) and enjoying the excellent home theater sound. Wifi was solid for the most part, but certain times of day it lagged -- that is probably an ISP problem, not a Hale Hina problem. The kitchen is very well equipped, and we used the Vitamix each morning to make our smoothies and found that the selection of pots, pans, trays, silverware, utensils, etc. was well above-average. Utensils, pans, flatware, etc. are not high-cost items, and it always makes me wonder why some other rentals don't nail that part -- Hale Hina does! We made a number of wonderful meals. Another thoughtful touch -- a wireless printer. We used the top-flight washer and dryer quite a bit, as towels get musty very quickly. Different, "spreading" towel bars in the bathrooms would help prevent this. A++ for whole-house air conditioning -- my 70-yo mother was kept comfortable!

Four beach chairs, a beach umbrella, sand toys, reusable bags for the grocery store, etc. are all to be found in the garage. There is one garage space available.

Sallie and Ute were very communicative and gracious. A+.

1 minor issue: The carpeted back bedroom where my wife and I stayed needs to have the carpet pulled out. A distinct musty/old-man smell permeated the room, especially strong on the carpet and near the bed. We bought a couple of scented candles and burned them in the evenings before turning in. There were so many other large positives to this house that we label this a minor issue.

Hale Hina is the best!

We loved staying at beautiful Hale Hina! We spent much of our time enjoying the lanai and pool area (especially the fantastic sunsets), but also enjoyed our time inside with the doors wide open with the screen doors closed to keep the bugs out. The home is beautifully furnished and the kitchen is stocked with everything you could want. Hale Hina is just as wonderful as the photos show, the house was spotlessly clean, and house manager Ute was very accommodating. We'll recommend this home to anyone considering a stay on the Big Island. Our favorites on the island: Kona Inn for dinner, Volcanoes National Park, star gazing at the Mauna Kea Observatory, and Hapuna for a spectacular day at the beach.

Beautiful, house and location

Gorgeous, going back again in 2017. Trying to plan a family reunion at the house in 2018. Close to all the activities we did and we only ate out once at the Kona Hotel, it was average. The food we cooked (The boys) was incredible, we bought fresh fish and steaks at the Local Costco. Happy hour everyday at the pool. We had a great time. We traveled in March 2014 but it won't let me put that date in.

Just like home, except with a view of a lifetime

We've rented homes across the US, Hale Hina was easily the best experience we've had. It began with the immediate and frequent communication from the owner, and property managers. Upon arrival at the property Ute and Steve Jones, the property managers greeted us, and provided a brief but thorough orientation of the home. The home has everything you'll need to prepare great meals and be comfortable. We went to Costco and target both 20 minutes away to stock up for out stay. The Haws also label each of the many lights switches and also the places where every item should be stored. Directions for the coffee maker, and other appliances are either in the orientation binder or taped on the cabinets. Great idea that others should do. I was especially happy with the sharpness of the knives. This was among the many example of attention to detail they deliver. The views were outstanding, culminating with nightly sunsets right out of a post card. We'll be back.

Perfect! Simply Perfect!

We certainly made the right decision when we chose Hale Hina. From the beginning Sallie was very responsive and accommodating. Her priority is that guest enjoy the experience of Hale Hina. The house is beautiful with lots of interesting art work and artifacts. It's inviting. It's comfortable. It's homey. We felt at home as soon as we walked in. The outdoor living area was relaxing and therapeutic with lots of beautiful native plants. The pool was the perfect temperature. The only negative was the day came when we had to leave. But, we will be back.

We could not have been more impressed with our stay at Hale Hina. The property is beautiful, relaxing, and extremely comfortable. With four adults and an infant, we could not have asked for a better place to stay while in Hawaii for 10 days. The location was perfect for us and it was very easy to navigate to different parts of the island without being far from Kailua. We loved it so much we have already booked ourselves a return trip next year. If that doesn't speak volumes then I don't know what else would. It was perfect.

This is definitely our favorite vacation property, completely as advertised with attention to detail

It was a privilege to return to this beautiful property. We continue to appreciate the owner as well as local on-site management help given to us under unexpected circumstances. We appreciated new updates within the property and the standard with which the property is held to. The property is second to none and we can only hope to be able to some day return again for another holiday.

This is a beautiful home. The pictures, while very accurate, do not do it justice. And the views from the house are nothing short of spectacular! Never got bored of seeing all that peaceful blue ocean and sky, and we had beautiful sunsets every night. The wall of sliding doors between the main living space and the outdoor space is such a lovely feature and kept the breezes blowing gently through the house. We were very comfortable and enjoyed using all of the amenities, including the wonderful kitchen, outdoor grill, and of course the pool and hot tub. Interestingly we did not even turn the tv on while we were there! My only complaint: the pool was freezing cold. I did not know until after we received our rental confirmation that the pool is not heated (I did try to look for this information when I was comparing properties). Since having a pool was at the top of our list of importance, it was a big bummer. My daughter still got in and swam, but it was far too cold for the grown ups (ie, non-serious-swimmers) to get in past the knees. Brrrr! Just wish there was a solar cover or something to heat it up. I have to wonder whether they have constant fresh water being added given the pretty infinity/waterfall aspect of the pool. I don't think the sun even has a chance to warm the water - it certainly did not get warmer during our week and the day time temps were in the low 80s. It's a lovely pool and a great size, so the temperature was the only disappointment about it. I stuck to the hot tub. All in all, we loved the island, and the house.

Outstanding Property

This property is Amazing. Beautiful views, incredible house, great sunsets, just everything you could want in a Hawaiian paradise. Quiet community that is minutes from just about everything in Kailua-Kona. My only complaint, the pool is not heated and that means it can be a little cold, but the hot tub is warm, so that made up for it. I would easily recommend this property to anyone!! Thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful home.

This was our 2nd time staying at Hale Hina. The property is located in a private gated community and yet close to everything (Safeway, Costco, ziplining, snorkeling, kayacking and the Beaches) By far the best sunsets we have ever seen. We ate every dinner at house because nothing else compared.
Good Friends and a property like this is a hit.

It's perfect.

We (2 couples + 1 adult) just returned from a two-week stay at Hale Hina - our second time staying there. It's perfect. The description and other reviews cover it - it's a great location in a secure neighborhood, beautiful home, lanai, pool and landscaping. Communicating with the owner (Sallie) and the caretakers (Ute and Steve) is quick and easy. We love this place. You won't be disappointed.

Wow! Beautiful Home with Fabulous View and Amazing Sunsets

We had two couples stay in this spotlessly clean home for ten days. The decor was lovely containing many pieces of local art. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. We loved being able to open the sliding doors each morning to make the interior of the home open to the outside. We spent the majority of our time relaxing and sunbathing beside the pool, while taking an occasional refreshing dip to cool off. We cooked the majority of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. However, one evening we had Chef John (J&K Private Dinners (808)319-5750) cook a delicious meal for us.(They even took care of the dirty dishes.) The beds were comfortable and afforded a good nights sleep and the bathrooms were nice with great water pressure. The owners really made this a "home away from home" by providing every item we could have possibly needed to ensure an enjoyable stay. We wouldn't hesitate staying here again.

by Lisa Lewis Date of Stay:

Exceeded our expectations

Our stay could not have been nicer from how easy it was in terms of communication with Sallie and Ute to how wonderful the home was. Terrific central location in a safe and secure gated community. The interior was as lovely as the pictures and the pool was even better than the pictures show. We would not hesitate to stay at Hale Hina again.

by Todd Titera Date of Stay:

Stunning home that will exceed expectations

This home, while impressive in the listing photos, is even more impressive in person. I'm a huge Tommy Bahama fan and I'm pretty sure Tommy was somehow involved with the interior decoration. The place is beautiful!

We have stayed at several VRBO properties over the years and what impressed me most with this property is the attention to detail. If you are a foodie, the cookware is excellent. The property owners have clearly paid attention to what you might want or need when staying here and have accommodated nicely. The property manager checked in on us two or three times during our week's stay and, while we couldn't think of anything we would need, was more than gracious to make sure our experience was beyond expectation.

I strongly encourage you to stay at Hale Hina. Great home and great service!

Heavenly Hale Hina

Where to start? How about at Aloha! This house is perfect for spending quality time with loved ones. The layout is so conducive to togetherness and sunset for us, became an evening family event. The home is exquisitely furnished and so comfortable. The truth is, we spent most of our time in the kitchen and lanai. The kitchen is a cook's dream and even if you're cooking or cleaning-up after a meal (best served on the lanai, watching the sunset), you are not removed from the everyone else. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and if it weren't for hopping out of bed everyday to spend time drinking coffee and enjoying the breezes and the sunrise, I easily could have stayed in the quiet comfort of our bed. The pool is beautiful and our kids spent hours playing together - it was a miracle. The view is unparalleled and possibly the best on the entire island. The house is very organized and labeled, which took away the stress of trying to remember where everything goes. There are three binders which provide instructions for appliance use, local information and house information. The property manager is super attentive, gracious, responsive and communicates very well. The house is conveniently located with a shopping center at the bottom of the hill. Grocery store, pizza place, shave ice/bubble tea and Ali'i drive and beaches just a short drive away. The community is gated with a manned security gatehouse and while I'm not sure I would have felt unsafe without it, not being local and really not knowing, it was an added bonus. Nobody is allowed in the neighborhood who is not supposed to be there. The house is stunning and really, the quality time we had as a family was priceless. I can't say enough about Hale Hina, except that my whole family hopes that we'll spend time there again soon. Mahalo, Hale Hina, we miss you.

This was our third time staying at Hale Hina and we had another wonderful stay. It was a little bit more buggy this time but nothing we couldn't handle since we were in paradise!! We will be back year after next ;)

Our group of 6 just just spent a week in this house and loved it. The pool, hot tub and outdoor space was incredible. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and made cooking enjoyable!! We did hire J & K Catering to cook dinner for us one night and it was amazing!! If you rent this house, you will not be disappointed!!!

Second time - just amazing

This was the second time staying at Hale Hina and it was just as fantastic as the first. We could not recommend staying here enough. From the location and neighborhood, to the cleanliness and comfort of the home itself, we loved it. We are already booked for next year; it was that great.

A perefrct winter get-away for couples

We planned this trip with our dear friends over a year ago and it was worth the wait! The highlights and things we enjoyed most about this house were -

-The view is incredible and private. You could spend all your days on the patio or in the pool & hot tub looking at the view and listening to the birds.
-The house is close to everything - the airport, shops, restaurants, movies, coffee/tea, gas station, and of course the beaches, sea excursions, and beautiful drive along the coast.
- The house is equipped with everything you need and properly labeled with plenty of information.
- The bed rooms (all with king beds which is hard to find) are situated in opposite sides of the house which is great for adult couples.
- It is in a private, secure and beautifully manicured development. We loved that it was away from the crowds but close to everything.

Don’t pass up the opportunity to rent this gem located in a perfect spot on the big island!

Lovely Home

This is an amazing home. Beautifully furnished, great lanai, incredible ocean views and infinity pool. Every kitchen item one can think of.

We recommend renters check the condition of all furniture and document with the property manager upon checking in. We were charged for minor damages that we do not believe we did.

I love this home!

We have literally stayed in vrbo homes throughout the world ( homeschooled while living a year abroad 256 days and 19 countries). This is by far the best home and we could easily move in tomorrow and never leave. Thank you for making our Big Island experience so much better by having a beautiful and well laid out home for my crew of 7 to enjoy.

Home away from home.

Based on your description and pictures of your home we had very high expectations . The property and amenities went well beyond our expectations. It is beautifully decorated and we loved the property manual (what we called the "bible") with instructions and helpful hints for everything. The kitchen and kitchenware was more than I have at home. The open wall to the lanai was great and allowed us to enjoy the weather; the pool and hot tub was great.

Amazing place

Stayed here in march 2018. Amazing place! Absolutely perfect! Jaw dropping views, beautiful home, Having the little shopping center less than a 2 minute drive was a delight as well. My only complaint was I couldn't keep my kids out of the pool :)

by Christopher Johnston Date of Stay:

Wonderful Family Spring Break

We stayed over Spring break. We had 8 of us 4 adults and 4 kids. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep and the 2 suites were a bonus. The kitchen and living area were large and decorated beautifully. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we might need. All of the bedrooms were spacious and the house was very clean.
We spent a ton of time in the pool and outdoor space. The VIEW, THE VIEW oh my gosh it's amazing. To sit on the patio or in the pool and look at the water made for wonderful days. The sunsets were beyond magical. Each day we couldn't believe our eyes to be in such a beautiful place. We really cannot wait to go back to paradise. The neighborhood was really nice with lots of well manicured plants and bushes.
The house is located in a great location to go south, north or across the island.
The property owner and manager were very easy to work with and always available if needed.

Great place to slow down and enjoy the Big Island

Hale Hina was a great home with a wonderful view of the ocean. You immediately relaxed upon arrival. You wanted just to sit on the lanai and enjoy the view. My nephew said it best when he walked in, “wow”! The home was very welcoming to visitors; very comfortable. Already planning our next visit.

Beautiful Vog

The home is exceptional everything you need and more. Our stay happened during a heavy Vog from the volcano so we didn't see any sunsets. The weather is something you can't control but all other aspects were great.

Amazing home away from home for our family vacation!

In all our years coming to HI, this was our first time to venture away from the beachfront resort hotels - and we have discovered our new favorite way to travel! Hale Hina, quite frankly, MADE our vacation! The home is gorgeous, from comfortable amenities throughout to meticulous attention to every conceivable detail needed to make our stay amazing. Having the "best seat in the house" to every Hawaiian sunset, whether lounging on the lanai or soaking in the hot tub, was an added bonus! Ute (the property manager) was friendly, extremely attentive, and helpful to get us settled in for our stay. I must say that the entire experience was managed impeccably well - it could not have been easier to get in and hit the ground running on our vacation. There is something to be said for enjoying a relaxed family meal around the table in your own "home" while on vacation - and Hale Hina was the perfect home in which to do that. My son enjoyed "Christmas movie nights" in the family room around the big screen TV (complete w/ surround sound), and the adults enjoyed grilling out and basking in the peaceful serenity on the huge lanai. There aren't enough great things that we can say about our experience at Hale Hina, but what is perhaps most telling is that nearly every one of our favorite memories from this trip involves some moment spent in this home. To us, Hale Hina WAS the vacation, and that's not something you can get at a crowded resort hotel (no matter the location or the price). Thanks (or excuse me, Mahalo) to Sallie (the owner) and Ute for making our vacation at Hale Hina more than we ever thought possible, and sharing your wonderful home with our family! We will be back one day soon! Aloha!
